North Mill is perfectly situated on the north side of Ashburton, a few minutes easy walk from the centre of the town.  As you leave North Mill towards the moor in the other direction, after a 5 minute uphill drive you will find yourself on the edge of the moor - your gateway to the whole of fabulous Dartmoor!  The views from there are spectacular - on a clear day you can see Teignmouth and Shaldon and sometimes beyond to the Dorset coast!

In recent years Ashburton has become well known for its antique shops, great cafés and also as a location for high quality independent food shops such as Ashburton Deli, The Fish Deli, The Artisan Bakery and The Dartmoor Butcher. In September there is also a well established Food and Drink Festival. Music and the Arts also have made an impact on this Dartmoor town, with Ashburton Arts featuring in a 2018 'Best Small UK Music Venues' in The Guardian.
We are also 10 minutes from the River Dart which rises on Dartmoor and covers 45 miles of both moorland and deep valley terrain all the way to Totnes and Dartmouth. There are easily accessed and beautiful walks along the banks of the Dart. From October to March it is possible to canoe stretches of the river.
Neighbouring towns are well worth a visit. The working monastery of Buckfast Abbey is a 5 minute drive with its Monastic shop and fabulous café and grounds. The Abbey recently provided the location for The Antiques Roadshow! Bovey Tracey  is only a 10 minute drive with The House of Marbles and the Devon Guild of Craftsmen being just two examples of great attractions for everyone including families.
The beautiful South Devon coast is easily accessible from Ashburton with choices of many wonderful beaches and seaside towns. To the east there is Dawlish, Teignmouth, Paignton and Torquay, all with delightful beaches and to the south Salcombe, Bantham (great for surfing) and Bigbury-on-Sea. There are also seaside areas of great interest to bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts - our favourite is Slapton Ley. There are so many delightful seaside spots within less than an hour's drive from Ashburton it would be difficult to mention them all, but we feel sure you will have fun discovering them.
Both Totnes and Newton Abbot stations are a 20 minute drive with direct links to London Paddington and there are regular buses from Ashburton to Exeter and Plymouth.
